Ride Report, 20th December 2016

A group of 11 eager riders left the Nowton Park starting point, with Ride Leader Dick Myhill in charge. The weather was fine ‘but a bit chilly ‘ but with only a light wind.
The route left town via Moreton Hall & Shakers Lane & then via the Cycle Path to Gt Barton, Livermere, & Troston to our Coffee Stop at Ixworth.
Here we were joined by Barry (from Wattisfield) & Paul & Christine Bass who had struggled bravely 500yds downhill from their house in Ixworth. (Paul having arranged a rare ‘Tuesday Off’). We all crammed into the small café & were well looked after by the ladies in charge.
(we got cakes & coffee as well!!!)
Thus 14 brave souls (surely a record for a December Ride) headed North via Bardwell, Hopton, Hinderclay & Wattisfield to our Lunch Stop at ‘The Blue Boar’ at Walsham le Willows.
We had the Garden Room all to ourselves as we all tucked into mushroom soup or sandwiches, all washed down by a choice of ales & other liquid refreshment.
Soon it was time to head back to Bury & as various riders ‘peeled off’ to head for their home, as cries of ‘Merry Christmas’ were shouted after the departing riders.
Returning via Pakenham & Thurston the remaining riders headed for Nowton Park & home.
Special thanks must go to Dick, our Ride Leader who planned an interesting ride for us all, good refreshment stops, & most of all a safe, & trouble free ride.

St Edmunds Cycling Group Inaugural Ride

20161113-img_2091The inaugural ride of the St Edmundsbury Cycling Group took place on Sunday 13th November. The previous days rain had cleared through but there were still plenty of puddles to negotiate along the ride which started in Ixworth, took us to The Dutch Barn Nursery for Elevenses, then to The Angel Cafe in Diss for lunch.

The ride was led by Paul B, with Tony F, Mike B, Dick M, Peter L, John M, Tony C, Barry S dutifully following along. Christine B joined us for a part of the route and we also hosted visitors Steve & Val.
